Smile DVD player speakers

I bought a Philips DVP3126/94 DVD player. I would like to know if the normal Creative 5.1 speakers can be used for this player, if I use a RCA to EP adapter.
What difference it would make when compared to other speakers the showroom sells like Akai, Sony, etc., will the Cretive 5.1 speakers suffice?
Which 5.1 Speakers can I go for without burning a hole in my pocket?
