TRY IF IT WORKS
1. Stop the programs that you don’t use regularly from starting automatically
by unchecking boxes next to all those programs in startup and services tabs
in msconfig.exe( To open this tool, type msconfig.exe in run dialog box).
2. If you don’t use Windows Messenger either disable it or stop it from
starting automatically. Open Windows Messenger, go to
TOOLS>OPTIONS. In GENERAL in Preferences tab, uncheck boxes next
to ‘Run windows messenger when windows starts’ and ‘Allow messenger
to run in background’.
3. Disable windows Startup and Logon sounds in audio properties.
4. Ensure that the boot optimize function in windows registry is enabled so
that windows regularly defragments boot files. To see the setting, open
registry editor by typing regedit.exe in run dialog box. In registry go to
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOp timize
Function”. Here ‘Enable’ should be set to ‘Y’. If it’s not, double click on it
and enter Y in place of ‘N’ in the box that opens.
5. Don’t overload the partition of your disk which is having the system files
and try to keep it empty as much as possible.
6. Use your desktop only for shortcuts and avoid keeping the whole files in it.
7. Uninstall the programs that you don’t need and defragment your disk
regularly.
8. Delete unnecessary files from your disk. Use cleanmgr.exe to clean your
disk of files that operating system no longer needs.
9. Use a registry-cleaner/optimizer software like ccleaner to delete temporary
system files that are no longer of use and windows forgot to delete,
shortcuts leading to nowhere, unused file extensions and active x controls.
Most of these give you option of creating a restore point of your system that
you can use in case something goes wrong after cleaning the registry. So its
best advised to use it.
10. Empty temporary files of the current user by typing %temp% in the run
dialog box and deleting all files in the folder that opens. Delete prefetch
data by typing prefetch in the run dialog box and emptying the folder that
opens.
11. Use good antivirus and antispyware softwares to keep your computer
immune to viruses, worms and spies etc and update them regularly.
