Wink Good and Free Video Editing Software?

Hi Friends,
I just got a TV tunner Card from a Friend for few months as he is going out of station. Also my holidays are going on! From tomorrow onwards I would be recording lot many TV serials and Awesome Documentaries! I would be uploading all of them to Torrents....Can anyone please suggest some good Video Editing Softwares.......that would be required to compress the video and remove advertisements from the video.......I would prefer free-wares...........
