Default Sims 2 Trouble

I currently bought Sims 2, and it installs fine, my computer meets the requirements, etc. When I go to play the game it comes up to the loading screen with all of the blocks. It will never get past "Preparing Captive Simulators" part before it says "Application has crashed/application will now terminate." Has anyone else had any similar problems? and what did you do to fix it?? Thanks for any help!
