1. While playing AVI movies in the computer I get jerk but MPGAV format is running fine. I have PIII with 256 mb of RAM, SIS 6236 AGP card with 4Mb of RAM with XP sp2. To play AVI file I am using Media player classic (k-lite).

2. I want to write these files on the DVD so can use in the DVD player. IS that format OK or It should be converted into another format to play in the dvd? I have nero 7 (comes with the DVD writer )

1. Upgrade your graphics card atleast. I think if AVI file is using Divx compression then it needs more processing power.
2. Your DVD writing software will convert those files to DVD format automatically. U need to select DVD video format write type in Nero7.

Or try to Install DivX from here.
It plays mpeg4 format files like avi (DivX and XviD).
Before installing DivX remove or disable your codec pack. And check whether your DVD player supports DivX (or MPEG4) format. If yes then burn those files directly on DVD using "Create Data DVD" from Nero. No need to convert it into DVD (MPEG2) format.

How do I check whether my DVD player supports DIVx for MPEG4 format? If i will say data DVD then would work fine on DVD player?
IF not then how do I have to write the DVD?

To start Nero Vision (is a part of Nero Software bundle):
Start->All Programs->Nero 7->Photo and Video->Nero Vision

Then go to Make DVD and select DVD Video.
Add (or drag) ur video files.
If u have big collection of video files and has to fit on ur dvd then click on "More" button placed in bottom then click on "Video Option". go to DVD-Video tab. In Transcoding quality under quality setting select "super long play". It will reduce ur video bit rate and set video resolution to 352x480 for NTSC and 352x576 for PAL video mode for all ur video files. then click OK. then click next. Here u can edit ur menu option. then click next twice. select ur recorder and burn.

If u have box of ur DVD player then u will find easily whether ur dvd player supports DivX or not. Or u can search it on net with model number and manufacturer.

Never. u wont get the actual DVD quality format from created DVD.
When original movie burnt on VCD the quality of VCD is obviously reduced compared to DVD movie. How should u recover that original quality?

Ok, I will go for that option, one thing more the video quality would be good mns good effects right.
First nero will convert the AVI file into the DVD format then after that it would start burning. Any idea how much time it would take to complete 3 gb of movies into DVD?
What do u think is NERO the best s/w for burning the DVDs?

Yes Nero is best and leading software for burning CD and DVDs. To convert 3gb movies into DVD format u will require lot of time depending on ur processor. If u have C2D then it will take very short time. For burning it will take max 15 to 20 mins. Better than to burn on DVD first burn less than 700 mb divx (mpeg4) (like one song ie 50mb) directly on CD-RW (data CD) using any soft. And try to play that cd on DVD player. It will ensure that player suppots divx format or not. Then u can burn all files on DVD using same method.

Question Re: AVI Problem

I have few questions..
1) Can anyone plz tell me a good software and/or a good codec to capture from video camcorder.
2) A good sw(home purpose) to edit the video.
3) In which format should i write the video.
4) What should be the settings to capture.

I have very less knowledge about all these but would like to learn gradually. Expecting good help/support.

c2d=Core 2 Duo. The best and advanced processor. Specially built for multiprocessing and fast encoding.

@HIM007: 1. disable the preprocessing filter(in ffdshow), while you play with Media player classic. ffdshow is used when u install klite.
or Just use "VLC player" it uses minimum CPU time for playing Movie, that will be much better for yr PC.

2. yes, you need to convert them to DVD format to play(if the DVD player is not Divx compliant). you can use flaskMPEG for doing that.

This answers your question, Rest I dont know what crap is being discussed here.

I have installed the DIVx player, in some avi files voice is there but for some it says plz download the codec to play this file, I dnt know why ?
It is also not playing the 3gp format.
