Open registry Editor by typing regedit at the run dialog box.
Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\ShellFolders

On the right pane you will find a string called Desktop. Double click it and change its value data to D:\Desktop

If you are using NT based windows (Windows NT, XP, etc) and have NTFS partitions instead of FAT32, you can do it... Log in with admin priviledges. Right click on C drive, go to properties. Go to security tab and set permission for individuals to access C drive (read, write, etc)... You can also modify the setting for the root drive only or for all subfolders...

You can use a tool like TweakUIXP as well to change the location of desktop and other such folders like documents, temporary location where files to be written on cd are kept by windows etc.
