It was just being moody. Continue with your life, no big deal. If it happens again, well, maybe some hardware incompatibility is the culprit.

Did you installed all the drivers properly from the given CD of motherboard.?

i guess you are using LAN connection to connect to broadband. Update the drives for your LAN Card.

hey i have a genuine Vista premium... this error came on my PC too... while installation(only once)...

still when i asked Microsoft then they told me its because of RAM n nothing else....
u have RAMs of 2 different speed... even though they are very well compatible still try to keep RAM of same speed in ur comp n then this error will not come.....

i dont think vista gives problem with gtalk or skype i have been using it since RC1 n it never gave such problems in my case....

still download the recent drivers.... vista drivers released by hardmware manufacturers are better than what Vista has inbuilt....

Sorry to cut in ,but i have been using Original Vista for few months now and there never was any problem.Have never seen that BSOD ever.
However there was this weird problem.
Whenever i started with Nero i would suddenly lose Aero.
Then i changed the ram and wew it was fixed..

well ! till date i have installed many games, yahoo, skype, gtalk and many other softwares in my PC, i didn't got any BSODS yet. means not even a single one, why ? i am using Vista ultimate 64bit. got it with my SUBS. in FEB.
(MSDN). It happens with many poeple all the time, the reason is pirated software or incorrect Drivers, Faulty hardware or less , old or differently clocked or chipset RAM, there can be reasons more than this, but i didnt got any kind of BSOD till date... i dont know why.

NOR IN MY VISTA and offcourse not in XP YET.

BSOD in Vista is a thing to make a thread about? I didn't know this. I'm getting BSODs (although not sooo often) on the three machines with Vista (C2D, Pentium4, Celeron)

have you checked your RAM with VISTA memory test.. ?

if still the problem exist then try removing the app. and clean your registry and then reinstall the application.. after that try running it in compatiblity mode..
