yeah, I think try this,

Enable hidden files and folder in the folder options, Delete this file C:\bootmgr, Delete this folder C:\Boot

Now I feel this is suppose to remove the Vista Boot Loader

A. If Vista is installed on C: drive:

1. Boot using XP Setup CD and give following command:

fixmbr

It'll remove Vista boot loader and then u can safely delete all Vista folders, like Program files, Users, Windows, etc from C: drive.

B. If Vista is installed on other drives:

1. Same case, Boot using XP Setup CD and give following command:

fixmbr

It'll remove Vista boot loader and now u can safely format the partition having Vista installed.

^^ I think he want to repair the whole XP installation.

To repair XP, don't enter into Recovery console and simply follow the given steps. The Setup will automatically detect a previous XP installation in ur system and will ask u to repair it.

No need to do all this, can you boot Windows XP? If you can then follow these.

1) Start Windows XP & put the Vista DVD in DVD drive

2) Start -> Run, enter this

E:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force

Assuming that E:\ is your CD Drive. After this, your system will auto start
& u will be automatically boot in Windows XP, now simply format the vista

partition to remove it
