Vista Problem( exe files not opening)

When I try to open exe files to install some software vista says " Not a recognisable file system. Check that files systems and their necessary drivers are installed " . What to do now

I suspect some kinda virus infection....

Try opening a file from a read-only media such as a CD-ROM with applications that you had created before you got this problem....

If it runs fine, then you may be infected with a virus. Well, if that too refuses to start, may be some other problem...

Same is the case with files from cd

Also when i try to open video files by double clicking on it, "wmplayer.exe not found" error pops up.Then i have to open media player first n then the files through its browser

The virus infection may not be the case because i installed vista day before yesterday

And there is no virus for Vista yet anyway.

... Or at least that's what I've been led to believe.

may be vista isnt installed properly.
try reinstalling and check if problem persists.
