Cool Avast or a firewall

Hi guys just 1 week back i completely reinstalled my system....
Now it has Windows XP SP2 loaded in it.....
I tried various firewalls but only ZoneAlarm was upto the mark....
I tried comodo, ashampoo, PC tool but all of them detected only 3 - 4 major threats in an hour.....
all this i have done using the Windows firewall OFF...
now i removed all the firewalls and kept Avast Network Shield On....
Amazingly it detected about 20-30 threats per hr
Here goes the last ten threats
13.05.2007 12:22:03 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.242.200:135
13.05.2007 12:23:20 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.115.165:135
13.05.2007 12:23:38 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.241.132:135
13.05.2007 12:27:28 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.211.62:135
13.05.2007 12:28:10 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.200.140:135
13.05.2007 12:28:22 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.128.251:135
13.05.2007 12:28:58 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.87.139:135
13.05.2007 12:29:01 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.203.56:135
14.05.2007 06:20:54 DCOM Exploit attack
from 59.93.130.245:135
14.05.2007 06:28:19 DCOM Exploit attack--thats the time i am writing this thread.....
from 59.93.130.245:135

Now i want to know is it safe to keep only avast's network shield on with windows firewall off? does this prevent atleast a majority of the threats? OR do i require any firewall still.....?
If yes then please suggest me one excluding all the above mentioned and they should be freewares..............

I am not sure of avast! firewall capabilities. Use Zonealarm free version or stick to Windows Firewall.

avast's network shield, can at best, be considered as a weak firewall. keep sp2 fw on and keep avast on to. good enuf. unless u have a habit of venturing into dangerous teritry in that case use za too. there wont b any conflicts even if u keep all 3 'on'
