In XP Home, the admin account can be password protected by going into safe mode, logging in as admin and going to user accounts in Control panel...

Or .. Start > Run > Control Userpasswords2 {Press Enter}

Under the Users tab, click on Reset Password under Password for Administrator frame.

I will suggest another easy way:

In the logon screen press ctrl+alt+del twice A box wil come up.
In the name field type "Administrator". Press Enter to login. Safe mode not needed. Now use this account as a normal account.
