Default How to install XP from DOS?

May be very old question but i m facing a prob today, i purchased new disk 160 GB. Now i want to install win XP pro only. There is no partion now. My first question is how to partion? bcoz FDISK does not detect my drive. it show only 38 GB. Is FDISK capable of partioned HDD-160 GB. Then i have winXP bootable CD. So after booting from CD when i type setup ,is it works? bcoz i think setup.exe is works only in GUI interface!. So how to install xp prof. from dos automatically like 98. means insert CD and type setup and xp installed. that's it. 2 more questn. Win 98 bootable floppy or winXP bootable floppy.... is there any difference or not in terms of providing bootable environment. 2nd is... in net various exes are available for creating bootable floppy. but in todays worlds floppy is outdated. Is there any other way to create bootable CD?. wheneven i use nero to create bootable CD it provides its own boot files but after using those files it install on some "candora DOS" environment ,not our normal dos mode.

Thanks
Vikas

Smile Re: How to install XP from DOS?

No need of Fdisk
for doing this you need WinXP Bootable CD

Process for Partition & Setup of WinXP on New Harddisk is

First On your System & go to BIOS (mostly by pressing del)
Now select CD/DVD Drive as your 1st Boot Option & Harrdisk as 2nd
Insert You Windows XP Bootable CD into your CD/DVD Drive

Now it will boot from Windows XP CD & will start the setup
follow the onscreen guide & process
it will show setup
press F8 for Agree & other keys as per guide

Now it will detect the the New Harddisk & will show you around 152GB of space in 160B Harrdisk
select that partition
(at the bottom you will find option for making partition
like press "c" for creatin partition etc.)
follow that
Make partition as per your need
& after this select C to install WinXp
it will ask you to format it
Select NTFS or FAT whatever you like & quick format C
after this setup will start automatically

follow this process

after installing XP
on the Windows
go to My Computers
right click in the other drives & format that

Thats it!

the way you are doing is used for Installing Win98 & not WinXP

You dont need to reformat.. you can increase your partitions by using third party softwares...

These should help:

winnt.exe is located in your winxp setup directory (optical drive/hard disk)
run it from DOS (not winnt32.exe which is the 32 bit gui setup)
make sure you have SMARTdrive on the DOS you are using to boot to make the install faster (or it may take hours)
