I Purchased Win Vista Busssiness. And I Activated It. But I Have A Confusion. If In Future I Change My Machine. Then How I Reactivate My Vista On New Machine. Please Describr In Detail And With Use Ful Links. Thanx

welcome to the genuine windows world, the activation is only meant for 1 machine only if u change ur machine in future bill gates say that u should buy another one for it.

For the same machine u can activate 3 times.

well mate you're totally wrong , Windows Allows activation as many times as u like also , it is for use on 1 Machine at a time so if u remove windows from older machine n then install it on newer machine then it is perfectly legal n i myself hv activated my Copy of windows more than a dozen times n on different computer configs .

in vista too u r allowed upto 10 hardware changes till which Online Activation works so this means that if u don't change hardware more than 10 times u can Activate infinitely .


Also , if u exceed the hardware change limit then u can Activate by phone ( has happened to me)

So please do a little reasearch before posting

May be I am not aware of this, but how do u remove windows (Uninstall)????
Or just format?
if so how does the activation server know, since the new config will be very different.

My understanding is that we dont own OEM windows but its licenced for a particular machine, so if u trash it the licenced is gone too.

U buy a car & register it with transport authority, then u trash the car & buy new one do u get to retain the same no.???

Unless your vista came with the machine , you shouldn't have any problems. According to this , you should be able to activate vista 10 times. So just activate as normal on the new machine.

Should you change the hard drive and another piece of hardware - for example for a major upgrade such as a motherboard change that requires a re-installation - Microsoft will allow you to re-activate up to 10 times. You will not, however, be able to have more than one machine activated concurrently."

you just have to register your copy of windows.. after that you get 15 activations.. its not a problem if you change your machine or anything, once after you register your copy of windows then you can activate it online 15 times.. after that you can activate it by SMS and phone.. the SMS service will be lauched shortly.. so dont worry.. your product has got 5 years of support ,and you wont ever have activation problem... just try not format many times.. as activating online is very easy as compared to phone.. till SMS service is launched...

and the windows says for activation again only when a major change is detected.. small changes cant make a difference...

yeah that's what i said n i have the OEM version of XP n when i trashed my old pc n installed it on new 1 i activated it through phone n the tech support guy said it's perfectly legal , u can have ur copy of xp running on any 1 system at a time(with the catch ox Maximum of 2 processors that is).
