Re: everything light needed....
Media Player : Winamp older versions
Video Player : Media Player Classic or VLC player
Word processor : yes, Abi Word is quite good
Anti-virus : AVG
Anti-spyware : Spybot S&D and Lavasoft Ad-aware SE
Firewall : Zone Alarm

Re: everything light needed....
You have installed Windows ME on that computer? Would it not have been better to go for Win 98 SE? IMHO, doing that would by itself improve the speed of performance...
PS: Vishal, in this months digit, saw that "Beat the Caption" winner for last time was named Vishal Gupta - that you? If so, congrats....

Re: everything light needed....
Try freeware: Billy
Its a very very lightweight media player. It itself is less than 1 MB and while running it uses less than 3 MB Ram. It uses system decoders for playing media files.

Re: everything light needed....
don't go 4 zonealarm. although it is a very good firewall (i am using zonelarm), it consumes a lot of memory (30-60 mbs).

Re: everything light needed....
Audio Player : FooBar... lighter & supports most (suppose u get a new audio format tomorrow...)
Video Player : Media Player Classic (better install K-Lite Codec Pack which includes Media Player Classic & installs most necessary codecs) or GOM Player or even the KMPlayer... all play most of the formats
Office work: Abi Word as Word replacement.. GNumeric as Excel replacement.. OpenOffice for MS Office replacement... but I was never able to stray away from MS Office
Anti-virus : AVG/ Avast (AVG's lighter I suppose)
Anti-spyware : Ad-aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D (not needed though... if u don't install any crap)
Firewall : COMODO
Image Editor : Photofiltre (I always found Paint.net & Gimp system-heavy)
To top it.... all r free....
Comparison of media players

Re: everything light needed....
if its 4 ur sis.. i'ld suggest go for MS Word itself.. easier to comprehend... & more compatible formats.. most of her friends too can use the files. I got some printing layout probs with OpenOffice & AbiWord...

Re: everything light needed....
^^^Thanx,
Nope, billy doesn't read ID3 tags. the author wants to keep the player as light as possible. I will search for one which has tag support too. Install Klite codec pack and with it, it can play any audio format.
Check the shortcuts of billy for faster operation...

Re: everything light needed....
For sound use Billy but remember it wont give that good sound quality and VLC for video which is light but rich in format compatibility
