Default Vista 64 bit

I have a AMD 64 3500+ processor and I am thinking of upgrading from XP to Vista.
system config:
AMD 64 3500+
1 GB DDR 400 RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GT GPU
2x80 Seagate SATA HDD
Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9 motherboard

Should I go for 32 or 64 bit version?
Will my 32 bit software be compatible with 64 bit OS or will it lead to performance degradation or slowing the system?
Are there any advantages of 64 bit OS over 32 bit as there are not many 64 bit apps in the market?

The Vista Upgrade Advisor says that there are no major software incopatibilties.

Thanks

you can go for 64 bit, but remember 64 bit OS application loading speed is a bit slow.. if you have 2 gb RAM then only i will suggest you to go for 64 bit version... 1 gb is also good amount and your system config.. says welcome vista

there would be no incompatiblity , but remember : 32 bit : 14700/- (ultimate) and 17800(64bit)

and resp. differences in other editions pricing...]

there are advantages of 64 bit OS if you have 4GB or more RAM... coz 64 bit OS recognizes more than 4GB RAM but 32bit does not..

other games imparovement and all are also imporatant in 64 bit.. i am myself using 64 bit Vista.. so no probs yet...

go for 64 bit one. And it works as fast as 32 bit. and it is future proof too.
