Lightbulb Is devenv.exe a virus cause avast says it is.

I was wondering why vista had that little icon on the right of Avast's icon which says that the program is not compatible with the security settings in vista. So i just ran avast to see what pops up well nothing popped up and the application started scanning the memory and warned me of a virus-devenv.exe.I deleted the file and then googled on the net to find out it belongs to microsoft's development environment for visual studios. Are these sites reliable. In both cases i have, deleting devenv.exe does not effect the system in any manner unless u have microsoft's visual studios.

Are these sites reliable
which sites u r talking about ??

I did a google with that file name... and all those web sites belonging to Microsoft.com are very much trusted....

Now it doesnt mean that file devenv.exe it self is a virus,

There can be few reasons,

1. Any other virus may have corrupted the the file devenv.exe.
2. May be any virus tried to infect the system with a file name like that.

By the way please refer to the Avast Log file and post which virus (Virus name) it has detected... !! ??

^^Right now for vista there are no viruses & XP viruses dont work on Vista..So it has to be Avast problem..See if they have any new updates

and for devenv.exe
It is not a virus. It is Visual Studio .NET Development Environment.

To add the Visual Studio .NET Development Environment (Devenv.exe) to the application exceptions list, follow these steps:
1. On the Exceptions tab, click Add Program. The Add a Program dialog box appears.
2. Click Browse, locate Devenv.exe, and then click OK.

Note Devenv.exe is located in the following folder:
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (2003)\Common7\IDE
3. Click Change scope, click to select My network (subnet) only, and then click OK. (This step is optional.)
4. In the Add a Program dialog box, click OK.
5. In Windows Firewall, click OK to save your settings

you mean that..yet you are not infected,so there is no vista virus.Look, the best antivirus is self.If you know safe computing/surfing you can't be infected from virus and other threats.

First thing as I am saying it again till date there is no vista virus...Somebody told that there was a virus for vista & it turned out to be hoax....I still stand by what I have said..And forget safe computing, even if a person doesnt know safe computing a virus wont affect vista...And spyware & other threats obviously that nobody can tell when it is going to infect you...You need to have some kind of protection for that..I can still say that there is no requirement for an antivirus till now & Service pack 1 doesnt have any major security fixes bcoz Vista is that much secure...And till now there is no news at all about a virus otherwise it would have been headlines everywhere... Just google vista virus & see for yourself
