delete icons from task bar/ system trey

i have xp sp2. There r sum unuseful icon in my task bar/system trey. i want to remove thrm. please help me.

Most of the icons in system tray, are of those applications, which start automatically at windows startup. U can remove those unwanted applications using msconfig. Type msconfig in RUN dialog box and goto Startup tab and uncheck the unwanted items. Also a few icons, like Volume icon, etc can be removed from control panel.

U want to remove them of hide them from XP

removing means these shortcuts or quick launch will be closed

if u dont like them u can also hide them

JUst right click on task bar. Go to properies and check "Hide inactive icons".

r-click each unwanted icon, go 2 its software & manually uncheck the option 4 "show in taskbar" .........

no i wanted to remove them parmanante. and after the help of vishal i did it. but some icons r exist and i want to remove them like windows security alerts, intel extreme graphics 2 icon

Right Click Intel Extream Grappics and Select Systen Trey->Disable

Windows Security Alerts-> Select Don't Remind me(Something like there when you click on that alert)

Post your required icons there is always a process to hide them
