Here's how you crack the read-only password protected Microsoft Word file:
Open the document and do a "Save As..." specifying Rich Text Format (RTF) calling it *.rtf.
Open the RTF file & Save with a new name as a Microsoft Word format document.
Open this file. Presto. You've bypassed the read-only lock on the Word file.

Also c... Advanced Office Password Breaker, Office Key Light...

Also... there is a password hole... which can b done with a regular hex editor... but that's no noobie stuff.

It is not possible to do a "save as" or any kind of stuff to open the password protected Word or Excel FIle. There are many utilities available on net which can recover the password. It is against the forum rules to provide name of the software. Just google and find yourself. Most of them are sharewares. They recover password for free if the password is less than or equal to 5 characters.

Use Passware Kit
It can easily extract the password from the word file.

First, open the document and do a "Save As..." specifying Rich Text Format (RTF). It'll end up being called something.rtf.
Now open the RTF file by double-clicking on it. It should look identical to the original Word file.
Save the RTF file with a new name as a Microsoft Word format document.
Open this file. Presto. You've bypassed the read-only lock on the Word file
