Default Urgent...Disk Read Error ....Now Wid Vista


hi frenz....

u ppl must b knowing that my pc was giving a disk read error as i posted it earlier too ...but that time i was on xp....also vishal gupta told me to go to the xp recovery console n type sum cmds there but i was unable to do so....
at that time...i called an engineer ...he came for just 2 mins.. solved the prb by just lookin into bios n charged me rs 300....he didn't tell me wat he did but told only that he cleaned sumthing in bios .....now i dunno was he sayin the truth ?

now after 1 month..i m on windows vista ...the prbs there again .....now i m unable to c any recovery option in vista boot dvd....can i use the xp recovery console n then give that cmds ?

plz guys help me to solve the prbs....now i don't want to shell out rs 300 for 2 mins n get fooled....

I am almost certain that your HDD is failing and if it is in warranty you should get it replaced. That engineer who "fixed" the problem, probably just reset the BIOS. Look for such an option in your BIOS and select it. If you can't find it, then unplug your computer from all power sources (all power cables) and remove your motherboard battery. Leave your system alone for around 30 minutes, reinsert the battery and start your system. See if you get the error again.

@ eddie.....my HDD is only one month old...brand new seagate 160 GB...so it couldn't be the prb of HDD...


@ nishant_mms.....plz temme how to flash the bios n wat does this mean ?

HDDs can develop errors even on the same day of their installation or might work under continuous stress for years. Time is simply not a factor in a HDD going bad.

Take ur HDD to any of ur friends house and check with any freely available utility it's health.Just google for HDD S.M.A.R.T utility
