winzip to winrar

while selecting program from a list to open winrar file i selected winzip and i didn't remove the check mark in the box which says "use this program to open these type of files". now my every rar file is opened with winzip but its of no use since it cannot open the rar file correctly.
i want to set winrar default program for rar files but how to do so.
i installed winrar. go the properies of that file and select winrar program but after i uninstalled it the file is again shown as zip file.
pls help me.

Press shift and right click on a zip file... You will now see a "Open With..." entry in the context menu. Select it... In the list of programs, select WinRAR, select "Always use this program..." and press Ok. Problem should be solved. Also, you can check WinRAR settings to help set various extensions as default open action through WinRAR

Right clik on the file. Select Open With. Select WinRAR from the list. Check the Checkbox that says "always use this prooram to open this kind of files". Click ok. winRAR will now be the default program for Zip files

@sakumar79 - Why "SHIFT and RIGHT CLICK" ?? ...wats the purpose of doin that?? coz i dint find any difference between 'shift + right click' and only 'right click'

Another way
Right click on the file.select Properties. see "opens with" option,click on "change" .Change it to WinRAR archiver & apply it
(You must change file associations of Winzip program)

My guess is that with windows 98 that was the way to bring up the "Open With" option in the context menu. In XP the RIGHT CLICK does that.

No, in Windows XP too, if a particular type of file has been assosiated with ONLY ONE program (including all other programs which have been associated with it in the past), then by default, the 'Open With' option is not included in the right-click menu. Once it has been associated with more than one program (in total), the 'Open With' option appears, with those two programs as options.

To bypass this, 'SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK' can be used, which opens a menu with 'Open With' option enabled.

In both 98 and XP, originally, you will not get Open With.. in your right-click context menu... If you use tweaks, you can set it to include Open With... in the context menu... If I remember correctly, this tweak is also provided in Autopatcher or Tweak UI but I am not sure...
