Default making "d" drive default location for softwares ???

every time i install software xp installs in "c" . i need to manually redirect it to "d" at the time of install . is there any reg key that will tell xp to make installations default to "d" or any other drive ??? please help .
p.s - is it possible in vista ???

Thanks Indyan... This is something I very much need, 'coz my OS is in C:\ and all my program installations are in D:\ This will spare me the effort of manually changing the installation path every time..

This appeared in the Fast Track to Registry
I used it to change my My Docs folder n Program Files foder on different partitions. Keeps my docs and progs safe in case of a system crash!
