DVD writing may be taking 1.5 hours and copying a DVD will be taking 1 hour....right?
Try resetting the DMA
Use this tool

Else, reinstalling XP will solve the problem.

# Under DEVICE MANAGER, open IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS.
# On the PRIMARY and SECONDARY IDE CHANNELS, open up their PROPERTIES display.
# In PROPERTIES click on the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab.
# Make sure that TRANSFER MODES is set to DMA IF AVAILABLE. and not PIO

steps to enable DMA...

Unhappy Re: DVD writing problem

i have had the same problem.

after changing the IDE settings to DMA - the time taken to burn a dvd was about 10 mins...

but i cant play movies on DMA mode...

i have to change it to PIO only = to play movies... and that too with funny noises in between same as srinivasan experienced.

(If i use Nero showtime player- the funny noises are gone)
