Default Mpeg4

Nero 7 allows us to encode dvd movies to mp4 format. if i keep the bitrate to something around 650kBps, i still get DVD quality video and the file size is hardly 550mb (in contrast to 700mb as AVI). since the size diff is so considerable, why doesn't everyone use mp4 especially those who upload movies? is there some flaw/drawback in mp4 which i am missing?

Yes you will get the DVD quality output only if you are ripping DVD video files (.vob to .avi)

the best compressed qualities can be obtained by h.264 based codecs.eg: x264 codec.
i think as avi's are more lossy at lower bitrates
