Running Out of Virtual Memory

Im running windows xp, when i turned on my computer it told me i'm running out of virtual memory. My problem is that it wont let me do anything...if i can even get the computer to boot up, it wont let me open any programs including task manager...
any ideas??

do as follows:
right click on my computer>advanced>under performance settings>again advance>here increase the size of the virtual memory..

Just increase the size of your virtual memory via system properties.
