After I update win xp security updates, my PC becomes unstable, crashes more, particularly firefox. Any reasons for this?

Thanks

I had this problem with firefox too recently and i don't know if i faced the problem due to any update too i had to format and re-install everything! Now i use the latest version of firefox. Everytime i started firefox everything hangs and nothing works and couldn't shut down properly either so i went the format way.
