Well I read this on MS long back (can't track any link or page now ) but Windows Vista can use USB 2.0 Pen Drive as RAM or as the swap partition to speed up the computer .... Don't know if it could be effective at all .... ???

Don't know if it actually does bcz I read it long before Vista Release it was kinda "will be there" feature ....

Abt XP naah I don't think so else our "SPEED UP UR XP" articles must've covered them by now

I did see a review of Vista where he showed that a pen drive can act as extra RAM. So, more RAM, increase in performance ain't it? This technology is called ReadyBoost. You can read more about it here This feature can't be done in XP, atleast not for now

No chance as ReadyBoost is only Vista feature

I don't get it guys, correct me if i'm wrong, we do have something called virtual memory in XP right?? that (in simple terms) uses hard disk space as memory, so what's new if I plug in a USB drive? isn't it same as virtual memory

ready boost caches files to usb from turbocache . . as these files are smaller in size and accessing smaller files in random from usb is faster than hdd. you get smaller boost . you cannot use that trick in xp as accessing larger files (like using it as virtual memory )is slower than hdd. if you want performance in vista or xp up the RAM dont think any thing else

ReadyBoost helps in booting Vista faster. And its not possible in XP.

It may increase speeds, but it will drastically decrease the life of you pen drive.

^^^
?!? I'm confused, dude. If you think more speed is important and not money, then why don't you buy a new RAM stick instead? It'll prove cheaper and moreover it is meant for that purpose.
