Simplest solutin is, open MS Paint, go to menu Image>Attributes.
There choose Height and Width both as 32 pixels. Then u can draw anything u want and while savin use Save As option and name it as FileName.ico. But if u want more features and control u have to use specialed softwares such as MicroAngelo or Axialis Icon Workshop.

I think microangelo is good for a newbiew, to create good transparent and simple icons.
But Icon workshop is best for creating all type of icons. If youwant to use a feature rich software package then go for Icon Workshop.

How i Make them
1) make the Icon illustration in either Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW, however Illustrator is far better then CorelDRAW, make just the layout & wireframe model 2) Export in psd format, then color in Photoshop, as U like, save as PSD or PNG with transparency 3) Either use Icon Workshop (prefered), or Stardock Icon developer to convert the images to icon format .cio |

As others said... the easiest way is 2 make a *.bmp to a *.ico
But some sw don't accept huge icons eg. WinRAR... they need 128 or lower colors in icons... So go for a professional icon editor... I prefer ArtIcons... great... 4 freeware.. try IconArt Follow this: http://www.google.com/search?as_q=ic...h=&safe=images

Here's a way, although a little longer. Boot with Knoppix CD. There is an icon maker there. Make it, save it on the hard disk. Restart the machine.
Although the .bmp to .ico conversion works, its not accurate. When icons are displayed in small, they become ugly |

I downloaded iconworkshop 5.03 but could not install it. it gave some error message ...
Sorry! Install encountered error(s) during {ProductName} installation. Then it asks me to check if i have less disk space or if the write media is not writable. But i have checked and there is plenty of free space on my harddisk. What do i do to install it? |
