Big Problem

hello,
about 3 months ago i had put another RAM(128MB) to my CPU.I already had 128MB RAM. therefore it was 256MB. XP used to show 256MB and speed was quite good .
recently, i put a new hard disk of 40 GB and a DVD writer bcoz my old hdd(20GB) had some badsectors.
obviously, i had to load XP into it.
But now my comp shows only 192 MB RAM though no changes were made to the RAMs.
The speed has gone down enormously and it hangs often
Does Webroot Spy Sweeper OR avast! OR DAP put a load on the computer?????

secondly, at startup, my taskbar never shows icons of DAP and VOLUME CONTROL.
What to do?
PLZ. HELP.

That 192 instead of 256 may be because the graphics accelerator is sharing memory,you can configure this in bios(it is completely normal thing)
And regarding volume icon
Go to control panel
Sound and audio devices
Check the box place vol. icon in taskbar
ok
done

try to find the same settings in DAP
also scan your computer and use ccleaner to clean up trash.

yup 64 mb is shared for ur video ram.. Wich mobo do u hv?

1)there is no option in BIOS
2)i have set those 2 icons to appear in tray but they never do

My friend siddhantmutha did u install the xp with same cd on 40gb hdd from which u have installed xp on older hdd.

about System Speed try disabling Avast @ start up & boot. if your system is back to normal speed, then you know whats the problem.

i installed xp on 40 gb hdd(20gb hdd was removed)
then today put 20 gb hdd
i think xp is not installed properly....
