Windows XP on usb drive

I have laptop harddisk and i use it throught the external bay and the usb port . its a 40 GB harddisk can any one please tell me how to install windows XP on the drive iam not able to do it..
I dont get any error message at all i tried it through the boot xp cd still not workin so could any one try and give me a solution of how to do it...

Many poratable windows xp on usb is avaliable now. But they are all illegal. Maybe you can use it for troubleshooting and data recovery. try a search on snipped for portable windows on usb..

i tried it yesterday but iam still not able to install windows XP on the drive
the installation does not recogonize the drive as a valid one
it does appear in the place where all the drives are detected but when i choose the hdd it does not install

i guess that step does not work any other step guys

and just for the record i said i have a laptop HDD (40GB) and i got bay (USB bay) from one of the shops here (chennai) and iam trying to install XP on to it
