win 98 can't be installed.
hi i have a celeron 2.53 with intel 845 original mb. i am unable to install win 98 on my system, i ve tried everything form repartitioning the hard disk to unallocating all the partitions. how do i install win 98 on the machine? currently i am running on xp without any problem.

Lol I have a P4 nd Win 98 run in my system very smoothly. Here abt amit he has a celeron 2.53 processor not P4 with intel 845 original mb so I think Win 98 easily support his configuration nd no doubt abt it. Amit u follow drsethi's reply do hope this will help u to install Win 98.

Have U Formatted Ur Disk In Ntfs Or In Fat32. For Win98 U Should Have Fat32

You have to format the partition which has XP installed on it first and then install 98 and after that you can install XP again, if you like it.

Format ur partion with FAT as file system and it will definetly work

hi guys thanks 4 replies. i ve tried deleting all the partitions of the hd and tried to boot from 98 original cd. even then i could not install the os ...... any soln???

yes,, i use the same 2.4 and also with 845gbv mb so having problem for win98,, it doesnt support win 98

yes, but its kinda sluggish if your system is not at par and there is not enuf RAM.

Could u explain what really happens when insert your windows 98 CD.
I mean the point at which trouble starts.
Did u try other Win 98 CD? , may be your CD is not bootable.

Yes,I have already installed Windows 98 SE,Windows 2000 Professional and Windows Server 2003 in my sys using Virtual PC (It's Free)
Sys Config
Pentium IV 3.2 Ghz
1 GB DDR 400 RAM
160 GB PATA + 80 GB PATA + 80 GB SATA Harddisk
Sony DVD RW

hi could you explain how to install 98 using virtual pc? because when i tried it gave me an error message saying "could not create temporary files"

well when i boot from a bootable 98 cd it gives a message system is vrifying... then suddenly it gives a messaage saying the setup file has to be at least ............... som many bytes long and it gives the dos prompt again..
