Folder Lock?

Is it possible 4 one to set a password for a particular folder.. OR is it possible to make a folder visible only to the administrator?

see u can set password for some folder using some software.But if ur hard disk partition is NTFS..can can do these by right click the folder-properties-then do the settings.

that allows only for the encryption of folders....
the folder will still be accessible from the computer

If u want to set a password for a perticular folder then u use folderLock software. This is a good one I use this software.

But folder guard n folder lock creates problem smtime.I havt used them..but my frnds said me once.

@ ravi - Any software which deals and manipulates the innards of an operating system is potentially bound to make problems. Usually it is due to some problem with the system due to which something breaks and the system crashes. Just try installing and using it.

My advice for all members is that, never trust on such Folder/File Locking Softwares. Once they got corrupted, u can lose ur Folder/File & then nothing can b done. Need of such tools is for securing important data but what if u lose the data forever. So don't rely on such s/w. I have already lost my valuable data when I was using Folder Lock.

well n2casey dude, u sud have backed up ur data first. but i think folder locks a real great tool to hide that personal movie, but important data cannot be secured.

Well I guess NTFS filesystem does allow you to set such permissions. Maybe some windows user can throw more light on this. I am not so sure how to do it but AFAIK, it's possible.
One way is disable simple file sharing in XP one user cannot see other users files saved in My Documents.

Yep. NTFS file system provides enhanced features. One of it is the ability to set file and folder level permissions. One can control which users and groups can read, write, modify, read and execute, or list folder contents. One could also prevent all other users accounts from viewing or changing your private information.

Windows XP users (both Home edition and Pro) can make use of the advantage.

Right-click the file or folder > Properties > Security tab has all these security based features.

Here you will find various options for setting up 'Permissions' for files and folders. It includes options Full Control, Modify, Read and Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, and Write.

Set the options as desired and click OK.

Note that 'Security' tab is included by default in Windows XP Pro
For Windows XP Home edition, Security tab is visible in 'Safe Mode'.
