Default Urgent Help Needed 2 Solve Win Xp Problem

I have this problem with my WINDOWS XP PROF SP1:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\ system32\config\system

I tried the Solution given in the FEB 2006 issue of DIGIT:
I have tried to use the Recovery Console with my WIN XP PROF sp1 Setup CD.In the recovery console I get C:\> straight away not C:\windows ; And it did not ask for a password or anything as mentioned in the DIGIT solution. when I tried to access the WINDOWS folder by typing the command:
cd windows (cd\windows\system32\config)
All I got was ACCESS DENIED.
Does the fact that I get C:\> instead of C:\windows make a difference?

PLEASE HELP ME!!

Why not u repair windows? It'll not remove any software installed or any data, it'll just replace the corrupt system files with the original files from the CD

You can try one thing!

Attach ur Hard disk to another computer and open ur C: drive, now goto "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config" folder and check whether there "system" file is present or not!

It'll be 100% there and u'll also find its backup file, like system.sav or something like that, just delete "system" file and rename the backup file as "system". now try to boot using ur hard disk
