PC hangs at Windows XP login screen

Hi,

My cousin has just brought a new PC and installed Windows XP with SP2 on it. While the PC runs fine most of the time, sometimes when the PC is booted it hangs on the Windows XP login screen. Sometimes the mouse moves but nothing can be clicked.

What can be the problem?

boot into safe mode and use 'last known good config' and c if its helps.

no harm is clearing all ur pc junk using 'ccleaner'. btw did u install any new sw ? does the problem exist rt from the time the new pc was bought ?

Only a few software are installed on the PC at the moment.
I installed 3-4 games like Unreal Tournament 2003, Brian Lara Cricket 2004 etc. few days back. I think the problem has started appearing after that.

Shd i uninstall the games?

On which partition did u install those games ?

I installed the games on e: drive. The OS is on C drive. Also there is no shortage of space in any of the drives bcoz the PC is very new.
I can't understand why the system hangs at the login screen as a result of installing games...
