Default where windows XP updates are stored in my system


i use windows XP with SP2..... my autometic update is on.... on system downloads the update autometicaly..... but to where...... as i need to backup the update files that windows downloads autometicaly to install them of line in next reinstall of my system..........

is it possible??

In XPSP2
WUs are located here in unknown file format...

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Copy all them to a folder and change their extension to .EXE and/or .CAB and look which works.. then backup them.

Microsoft periodically gives free CDs for all WUs... but there's no such CD after SP2...

I think there are 3-4 hotfixes after Sp2... check them all a WindowsUpdate.com

change your AutoUpdate option to ->
"Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"
it'll give a list of updates available with respective links to their info
