Default Windows update error

my sys specs areIII 966Mhz,Intel 810e mobo with on board graphics,256MB SD RAM,40 GB HDD and am running win XP Pro SP 2.
My Windows Update is configured to automatic mode and surprisingly there have been no updates downloaded/installed since November 2004.On seeing the Windows Update log,i see two errors which I quote here:
"Error 80200010 occurred while downloading update; "
and
"Error 8020000e occurred while downloading update;"
What could be the problem?
Please help!

Default

looks like problem with the connection to me....

check this page...

The network card is inactive or disconnected. All jobs are placed in the BG_JOB_STATE_TRANSIENT_ERROR state.

try this..

start - run - services.msc

look for "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" see whether it is enabled or not...windows update uses it for automatic updates...

give it a shot and see what happens...
