windows explorer problem

hi friends i am facing a typical problem. i have lots of video files (dat mpeg etc) stored in a partition in a folder. windows xp sp2 is installed in anpther hard disk ( and not another partition). the problem is whenever i open the music video folder a warning shows that windows explorer has faced a problem and need to be closed. then either windows explorer closes down and then reastarts automatically or becomes not responding. plz help me about what to do

Strange no doubt.

Did you try to get into the folder from a dos prompt?? if yes then take a painful step to move ur files from that folder to another one (does take sometime but u see its better then losing em all)

Login with different account apart from one which you normally use to login, like use Admin account and check.

If that fails then why not try replacing the explorer.exe file ( plz plz backup ur present explorer.exe) and try

If not, how about sfc /scannow in run command with xp installation cd being popped into the drive???

if not repair windows by booting up with the cd..

if not ... cant think beyond this

Hmm.. Maybe the explorer is crashing because the view is set to Thumbnail and there are too many files to create thumbnails ..
Anyways whats your explorer version ...? My Computer > Help > About Windows
If you havent installed SP2 then you should better install it along with the latest patches for your version of Windows ..

1.) Scandisk the hard disk completely.
2.) As it_waaznt_me suggested, set the View to icons or tiles or details or list.

The same happens here when I open a folder with too many .ico (Icon) files. Its just the thumbnail issue for me though.

same happpens 2 me sometimes with my torrent folder!

It may also be a virus!! So do a full System scan. If your XP is crashing because
of 'too many thumbnails' files. You need to upgrade your RAM to 512 MB or higher.
Or better disable 'thumbnails', set it to list, tiles etc.,

gosh i have tried all that but no help friends. another thing my computer has been infected by trustin. i have recently cleared it with mcafee 8. could that be causing it?
