From http://www.rselby.net/xp_error_messages.htm -
Open Notepad or Wordpad Click File Click Open Browse to C:\WINNT\System32 directory Open the file CONFIG.NT Look at the bottom of the file for the following syntax: device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys If it is not there add it to the file Click File Click Save Close Notepad or Wordpad This line may exist but be proceeded by a "REM", which prevents it from being read. Remove the "REM" if this is the case. If there are other "devices" specified, add "REM" to the line to prevent it from being used in the DOS settings during the install. It is possible to remove the "REM" once setup is complete. Similarly, check if the statement, "lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx.exe," exists in the AUTOEXEC.NT file Expand HIMEM.SYS, DOSX.EXE, or both from the Windows NT or XP setup disks or CD- ROM disc if either or both are missing from the SYSTEM32 directory Try setup again Arun |
