How long this problem is there? Is it since you bought the System?
You must install the Chipset drivers first , before installing anything. Service Pack
may interfere with some software causing it to malfunction. Even if you don't install SP you should be able to play Video & audio without any issues. What version of Media Player you are using 9 or 10? Try installing RealPlayer or any other media player to make sure if it works. Check for any hardware conflicts.

1.)sp2 does not create PROBLEMS in ur system....it closes some of the loop holes in ur system....u would face probs only while playing some games( incompatibility issues) but in no way harm ur system....

2.) plz check ur codec packs....update them..for the video prob...

I must say the order of driver installation can cause problems. So do wat said above

2ndly go to Start --> Run --> type "dxdiag" without quotes

Go to Display and take the tests , check if there are any problems,
Do the same with Sound

Check whether there's any conflict between onboard graphics and GPU

also check the default sound settings
