Wifi setup on Dataone Type IV modem

hey guys anyone can guide me to setting up wifi on dataone

I have a type 4 smartx841 modem with wifi
i have a laptop which is wifi enabled

when i use the onboard lan of the laptopit works fine but when i want to connect thru the wifi connection i get a "remote computer does not respond....." error while dialing...

I can access the modem setup portal and the signal strength is 100% and i can access other comps connected to the lan ports of the modem. i can ping n stuff.. basically there is full wifi connectivity.

Now when i dial the boradband connection it keeps trying for some time and then "error 678: the remotecomp did not respond....."

what to do???
