Try the following steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.
4. Again Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.

Reply if it solved the problem:

WHAT??? REinstalling windows also doesnt fix the problem???
Has this problem started occuring since u installed WMP10 or was it happening b4?
BTW, windows installs, WMp 9 everytime, so was the player working after u did a fresh install of XP?

PS:If possible, post a screenshot as well

This is another alternative to what i suggested.
I guess this should work if you follow it properly..

1. Go to Start->Run-> Type regedit.exe

2. Go to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c26 0-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb558}\In procServer32

3.Make sure the (Default) value data contains this value: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\JSCRIPT.DLL

4. Also make sure ThreadingModel value data contains this value:
Both

5. Now locate this key(right below the previous one):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c26 1-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb558}\In procServer32

6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on this key.

7. Again navigate to the key below it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\CLSID\{f414c26 2-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb558}\In procServer32

8. Again repeat steps 3 & 4.

9. Exit regedit & restart your pc.

All i can say is, backup these registry keys, try the methods indicated above, and if it still doesnt work, restore these keys.

To backup the keys:

1. Locate and then click the subkey that contains the value that you want to edit.

2. On the File menu, click Export.

3. Select a location, these will be saved as .reg

To restore those keys, simply click on the saved .reg files & click yes on the dialog box that appears.

Keeping fingers crossed.
