Default settings are not saved

the freshly installed windows xp sytem is not saving the settings that i make...like i changed the resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768 and then changed the ip address of lan card. After restarting the system the settings are reversed. Im not gettinh the confs that i've changed.

i removed the cmos battery from the system since it used to give cmos error...could it be the problem?

plz help me geeks

Are u the only user for this machine..
or are there anyother profiles there as well??

do one thing...create a new user,give admin rights and try to change the settings adnrestarting...
restart the computer the normal way !

Also have u changed tha battery??
though thi problem is not concerned with CMOS battery..
