Default Unable to install WinXP on 64Bit Machine

Hi,
these are the specs of the PC i bought

AMD Athlon 64 Bits 3000+ 754 Pins Processor
ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard
512 MB 400Mhz RAM
nVidia GeForce Fx5200 256 MB VRam
ATX Cabinet with 400 Watts SMPS
80 GB Serial ATA Seagate Hard Disk
SONY Combo Drive
SONY Floppy Drive
...........................

I am unable to install Windows XP Pro with SP2 or Windows 98 SE on my PC, i had no probelems installing OSes on my older PC(Pentium 3...).

When i try installing Win Xp the PC restarts automatically without warning when approximately 60% of the files have been copied(files required for installing WinXP-in DOS mode)

When i entered BIOS i saw that the "Primary IDE Slave.." was being detected as my SONY Combo Drive instead of the Hard Drive & my Hard Drive was not being shown over there(not even in the "Secondary IDE Slave")

I am new to 64 Bit computing & Serial ATA Hard Drives, i have no idea on how to install OSes on a 64 Bit machine or on a machine with Serial ATA Hard Drive. I dont know what RAID config is.

Do i need to configure RAID or something to install the OSes?
How should i install WinXP??
Please help me!!!

You can install Win XP SP2 on ur PC without any problem but u need to use the drivers for ur SATA controller before installing the OS u can find the driver on mobo CD or on the ASUS site. U have to copy the driver on a floppy disk and when the insallation of XP starts insert the floppy in the drive and press F6 it is done when u boot the computer with the OS cd. Look out the status bar when to press the F6. And then select the driver and then continue installing the OS normally no other steps needed

I never faced such a problem with a similar config.
Can it be a problem with the ram?

I also experinced no problem wth my new system which is more or less similar. And why should the question of Raid arise when there is only one HDD. And no need of SATA drivers also. When I installed the motherboard software (Asus) after installing the OS, there was a screen showing that MS SATA drivers are already installed and I better retain it. And the system is running without any problem for the last 3 months.

And fianlly, is the OS genuine?
