Default My review about windows vista beta 2 built 5270

well i just have got my beta invi from MS to try the beta 2 windows vista... it was a massive 2 GB download (though MS made part file 5 of them)...

the 1st change is the installetion... this new OS is no DVD... the dvd boots like a live CD... u have a graphical interface on installetion...

the next major thing is the simple installetion... only 4 click was for me to get in install... the installetion is totaly autometion... it did what it needed to do.. a restart & it brought me to the dual boot screen... i have installed it on a AMD 2600 XP with 512 MR DDR400 ATA 80GB... it took 1h n 30 mins to get it install...

it is running very slow on this config.. very very slow.. therefore i will install it on my 2nd system thats a P4 HT 3.2 with EM64t... hope that will going perform better...

here is some screen shot from my own system...

the explorer... My Computer...

new pict layput....

System info...

The new WMP 11 for vista

The new outlook express or rather windows mail...

adding a new digicam...

in side of my digi cam...

this version of windows has lots of intergrated security features...

called windows defender...

new spyware alert... though this alert was for changing the home page...

also have some good games... like chess...

By the way, i have an AMD64 2800+, 512 DDR 400 RAM, 120 GB SATA (Maxtor) and nVidia FX5700 gfx card. Do you think Vist would run *ok* on this config??

Did you guys manage to get drivers for any onboard devices like soundcard, NIC, Wireless NIC, etc.?

I have an AMD X2 running on nvidia nF4 based mobo, DFI Lanparty nF4 UT Ultra-D to be exact. Video is Connect3D ATI X800GTO. I tried installing Win XP and 2K drivers for the devices in vain.

Hook me up if you know of any site that provides drivers for vista.

try the vista autoupdate... i did... & found what it needed... otherway... MS says (Relese Note for vista beta 2) that driver for winXP Sp2 should work with vista... but its a issue for nforce... so its recomended to run the auto update...

it will do.. u should be able to run vista...

onething... i tried this install on a 845 intel board... didnt worked out... it says minimum 865 .. but a via chip set older than 845 was able to run vista... also MS beta web site says that P III 533 Mhz is going to be the minimum system requirdment... then i wounder why this built refused to run on 845???

I know an autoupdate would prolly solve the problem but i have only wireless internet and the damn thing (PCI wireless NIC) is not taking any driver in vista! Had the ethernet card been working, i would have set my laptop as the gateway but sadly even the onboard ethernet is not taking any driver (fuking nforce controller.)

Nice Screenshots and review. Hope it's more secure this time around. I guess www.windowsupdate.com doesn't support updates for Vista, correct me if wrong..

I have the vmware workstation version lying around from my old job but i never needed to use it at home. Anyway, wouldn't that still require all the drivers the same way it does now? I am getting sick of all this and might very well uninstall vista altogether, most apps will not work on it anyway, rite?

Nevertheless, thanks for sticking around to answer my (moronic) questions.

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...estionID=19933

regading nforce chipset...

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_75.03.html

I installed windows Vista BETA2 build 5231 on my P4 3 GHz HT 64 bit and ASUS P5GL MX with 512 MB DDR 400 mhz RAM

It took only 35 minutes for complete install and is running very smoothly!

And YES! they hv completely removed the sidebar from this edition...

I want to share something, I found Interesting in VISTA and also some problems which I faced and their solutions:

1.) Whenever I open My Computer in VISTA, it first checks the Floppy drive then displays the contents of My computer! It was very irritating and took a few seconds for it. I got the solution while enabling / disabling some options in Tools -> Folder Options. The solution I found for this problem was "Always use icons instead of Thumbnails" checkbox was unchecked. I simply checked it and VOILLA no more floppy drive seek

2.) One Interesting thing I found was a new option "Use checkbox to select the items". If we enable this option in Tools -> Folder Options, then a little checkbox is appeared at top left corner of each item, if we select the item or move cursor on the item. Its a gr8 option and we don't need pressing <CTRL> key ne more.

3.) The Power settings r also changed and not very user friendly. I didnt found option for disabling HIBERNATE. I searched on net and found the solution as following:

Open command prompt and give following command:

Code:
powercfg -h off

hay vishal thnx for sharing that.... :d :d

here... me still fighting with the bcdedit.exe.... i dont like that default vista boot menu... therefore i felt that i need to edit it...

now USER Name is an administrator of the computer (in vista) but still when ever i try to play with bcdedit.exe from the User Name account, i get access dinied.... check this guide out regarding bcdedit.exe

also another thing... one of my frnd took my DVD to install the OS in his system... he did... but as he didnt had the right product key, so he was unable to activate it... so after 11 days he thought of removing it... here we found another surprise... we were unable to format the drive in which the vista was install... as the drive in NTFS so keep 98 out of question... we tried to format it at the time of installing the windows XP 64 bit.... it faild & reported that either drive in read only or is damage... same with windows XP 32 but & server 2003 r2 then we tried to do it from command promt of windows recovary consol (winXP x64, x86 & server 2k3) here it sayd access denied... we tried to do it from booting in the windows XP 32bit (as he had a dual boot)... in the Disk managment we saw the format option of right click menu over the drive in grayed out... lol... not a single option to format the partition... drive wthout the vista DVD....
