Default Migrating OSs

Hi

I have Windows XP Pro with SP2 integrated installation. I have installed it and it runs fine. I then got myself a copy of Windows Media Centre Edition 2005. I then tried 2 upgrade it into my older windows XP. Now i encountered 2 BIG problems:

1)When the setup started to copy the files into a temp folder, i recieved a message that a mass storage device on my comp was not identified and hade to provide drivers for it after the installation

2)After the full upgrade installation, I restarted only to find my old OS(Win XP Pro) and no trace of MCE 2005

Now, im doing a clean inst. of MCE. Is there anyway to migrate all my settings into the new "MCE" and make all the older programs work with no problems in MCE?Should I format my partition which has XP or should I overwrite the new installation on my older?
