It happenes when u use more than one web browser.
Do one thing!

Open IE and goto: Tools -> Internet Options and then goto Programs tab and click on "Reset Web Settings button" and make sure that "IE should check wether its default browser" checkbox is checked

As your brother and u r sharing the same messenger, i think the problem lies in your id. I mean dat yahoo messenger maintains the profile of each user(id) inside its folder.Default path is " C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles " So somehow the profile may have been damaged. It may be some error on ur computer..so u can try to open it on another computer in a cyber cafe or something. Maybe u can check out the origin of the fault..I mean whether it is happening with ur computer or with the server !!

Another point is that any1 who happens to know ur id and password might be opening it and viewing the messages on ur behalf..Try changing ur password.

Regarding ur second prob, Yahoo Messenger has an option that are enabled by default in the general tab under the preferences window.
In this tab u'll find an option that says " open web links in a new browser window ". U have to check it if its not checked. This problem might be solved thru this.

That's all I can help buddy.....

unless u hav not messed with any settings, these r the only 2 possible reasons...

Code:
There are two possible reasons why you may not receive offline messages:

You (or your ISP) are behind a firewall or proxy server. A firewall/proxy server controls what is let in and out of your network. If you think you are behind some type of security protection, please contact your network administrator (if you are at work) or your ISP (if you are at home) to help you configure your firewall/proxy server.

We are experiencing temporary server problems. If this is the case, the server problem should be resolved within the day.
what firewall do u have?
