Default no surround sound in FC4

Hi guys,
I recently installed a second OS - Mandrake Linux 10.1 in my system. But it did not identify my creative SoundBlaster 7.1 soundcard, and there was no sound output at all. After different repeated attempts, I got frustrated and installed Fedora Core 4 instead.. Now, FC4 identifies my soundcard and i get sound output, but only the 2 front speakers of my 5.1 system are functional. there is no sound output from the other speakers. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how it can be rectified, to get 5.1 surround sound... My PC config is
P4 2.4 GHz
Intel 845 MoBo
512MB RAM
80GB HDD
Creative 24 bit SoundBlaster 7.1 Soundcard
Creative 5.1 speakers

Thanx in advance...
