This problem genrally occures when windows looks around for drivers. Open the hardware manager and see if there are any "?' there reinstall the drivers also having a static page file on a non C drive helps
Check ur 'Prefetch' folder (usually C:\Windows\Prefetch\). Is it empty ? Or, did u install SP2 ? Service pack installation usually clears all files in th Prefetch folder, resulting in a slower boot-up (happened to me many times). Also, r u on a network ? Maybe th option 'Wait for network at startup' is enabled in Group Policy.

It ain't no RAM problem, dear vysakh I hv only 128 MB RAM, and my XP used to boot after just 4 scrolls (in less than a minute) before I installed SP2. It's just a matter of getting th software configuration right

The MS Freeware Bootvis has an option to speed up boot process and it also has an option to show in a graph form the programs/drivers/dlls loading during the boot process and the time taken for each.
BOOTVIS has a strange quirk - if it completes the optimizing process in XP in less than about a minute or so then it does not make any major difference to the boot process - but at times for no apparent reason BOOTVIS will take upto 20 minutes for this same optimizing process and after this long process the BOOT times shorten considerably. I dont have the faintest idea what make the difference to BOOTVIS's optimising or not optimising the settings !!! Dont forget it is an Uncle Bills program.
