Default Programme responds lately in XP

    Hi

Recently I gave my 4 year old acer laptop to service center for servicing. after that i am facing a problem like after booting some programs taking a long time to open. If i opens firefox, sometimes it takes 5-10mins to open. during that many programs responds similarly. And after some minutes all of a sudden all programs opens one by one.

I have windows xp, 1gb ram, 15gb free out of 40gb in C.

what could be the problem ???

Use Clceaner and Clean your System.
The install a good Antivirus like Avast and do full system Scan for Virus. If that proves too time consuming then you can use MALWARE BYTES and do quick system scan and cleanup.

Check free RAM before opening Firefox. Latest version of Firefox are a bit heavy on memory.

Open up task manager ans see if any program is consuming excessive memory or CPU.

Check this when you are facing the issue of slow starts.

@ gurujee - scan your HDD for bad sectors - if it's a seagate drive use seatools dos version.

More than a malware isssue, I think its hardware related.
As stated earlier check your hard disk for errors. Also run a memory test.
Though am not ruling out any malware attack.

The best bet is to hard format the hard drive (takes lot of time compared to a quick format) and install a fresh copy of windows. (Consider using Darik's Boot N Nuke program)
Avoid downloading windows updates (Most of them crap up the system as they are generic and not system specific updates)

The hard format ensures all worms and rats are killed and taken care of, avoiding windows updates ensures you don't crap up the system.

**Before formatting, just do a full scan with malware bytes software, let it run while you sip some coffee and watch it find the worms in your lappy (Again, full scan and not quick scan)**

My lil cousin owns a Dell too (Some old model with very bad config, he starts the laptop 30 minutes before he wants to actually work coz it takes approx 30 minutes to boot and get ready for operating)

Alternatively, you can install some other OS on the system which doesn't consume resources, like Ubuntu or some cloud OS.

Am assuming you don't have multiple anti viruses installed in the system and you aren't using Norton Products (They choke the laptop to death)

    Yes, use memtest86+
If everything else fails, do what montsa007 has suggested.
