Default Unable to update firefox...

I use windows 7. When i start firefox it promts for an update which i allow it to do. But then it shows an error something like, "firefox is unable to update. there might be some other version of firefox on your computer". The same problem happened last time and i had to remove firefox and download and install the latest vesion of firefox.

I need a permanent solution to it.

Which version do you have now ? Use Revo uninstaller, remove all traces of current Firefox and reinstall it. Mostly it will work fine from next updates.

auto update is turned off. download fresh copy from filehippo or softpedia & try installing manually.

as directed use a (sam) fresh copy from softpedia and before that(meetdilip) remove all traces using revo.if still prob persists do this:
Goto firefox menu>options>advanced>update tab>uncheck all.
After that when you want to update goto firefox menu>help>about>check for updates.!!
