Keeping internet on in sleep mode

I have a BSNL EVDO (Wireless Brodband Modem) connection and a Lenovo laptop. Since i don't have a wifi router, i use connectify to create a virtual hotspot and share the internet connection with my android phone. When I Put my laptop in sleep mode or hibernation, the internet connection gets disconnected and the wifi hotspot is deactivated. Keeping the laptop on Drains the battery power and makes it warm. So please tell me a way by which i can use wifi on my android phone without draining the battery of the laptop(Keeping it in sleep mode or so which uses very less battery power and does not heat the laptop).
